    Towards a Historical Semantics of Emotions

    Doctors and scientists tend to view emotions as primarily linked to bodily functions, and explain them in terms of nerves, hormones, and adaptive mechanisms. Philosophers, theologians and psychologists, who throughout the ages argued about the rationality and cognitive status of Emotions, treat them often as a basic human faculty.

    A workshop on the History of Concepts will be held at the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute in September 13-17. The workshop will consist of sessions devoted to concepts from different realms: the Political, the Social, The Natural sciences and Medicine, and will be guided by lecturers from 'Concepta' as well as lecturers from the Zentrum  fuer Literatur- und Kulturforschung, Berlin.
