Sandro Chignola

Sandro Chignola, born in Verona, Italy in 1961, is a Professor of Political Philosophy at the Department of Philosophy, University of Padua.

He studied philosophy at the University of Padua (1984) and then earned a PhD in History of Political Thought and Institutions (1987-1990) from the University of Turin. He is an assistant editor of ‘Contributions to the History of Concepts’; a member of the editorial board of the journal ‘Filosofia politica’; a member of the CIRLPGE  (Centro interuniversitario di ricerca sul lessico politico e giuridico europeo), which is included in the Centre of Excellence CRIE (Centro di Ricerca sulle Istituzioni Europee) in Naples; an associate correspondent of the ‘Eric-Voegelin-Archiv’ in München (Germany); an advisor to the Executive Committee of the Italian Society of Political Philosophy (SIFP); and a member of the Executive Committee of the international research group ‘History of Political and Social Concepts research group’. He has been awarded scholarships for research at the Istituto Banfi (1986) and at the Goethe Institut in Berlin (1987). He has also worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Political Studies at the University of Turin (1993-1995); at the Ecole Normale Supérieure at Fontenay-St. Cloud (Paris, France, 1995-1997); at the Department of Philosophy at the University of Padua (1999-2003); and as a visiting professor, at the EHESS (Paris, 2002).

Besides publishing numerous papers and essays in Italian and international academic journals and in volumes of collected essays (in Italian, German, Spanish, English and Portuguese), he has published: Societa e costituzione.
