Norbert Götz

Dr. Norbert Götz is a docent (asc. prof.) in Social Science History and works at the Centre for Nordic Studies at the Renvall Institute, University of Helsinki.

His publications include the dissertation Ungleiche Geschwister: Die Konstruktion von nationalsozialistischer Volksgemeinschaft und schwedischem Volksheim (Baden-Baden 2001; awarded the Hans Rosenberg Memorial Prize 2008), as well as the edited volumes Civil Society in the Baltic Sea Region (Aldershot 2003), Die Ordnung des Raums: Mentale Landkarten in der Ostseeregion (Berlin 2006), and Regional Cooperation and International Organizations: The Nordic Model in Transnational Alignment (London 2008, forthcoming). He has published in such leading journals as Cooperation and Conflict, European Journal of International Relations, European Review of History, Journal of Cold War Studies, Journal of Contemporary History, Scandinavian Journal of History, and Zeitschrift für Soziologie.

After recently having finished projects on the conceptual history of "non-governmental organisations" and the representation and semiotics of the Nordic countries at the United Nations he is now working on early Scandinavian peace activism as well as the concept of "open society".
